There Is a Lesson Around Every Corner
Today I was eating lunch by myself at a BBQ restaurant that almost no one can find in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The BBQ was great, but the experience I had was so much better. As I was eating my sandwich, I noticed three young guys sitting at the table by me and they were having some type of conversation about church. I couldn’t see all of them, but I knew one of them had a Bible. After I finished my sandwich, I stepped over to them sand said, “I heard you talking about church. Give me an idea…teach me something.” They looked kind of stunned. I introduced myself and sat down with them for a few minutes. They are church planters here in Hattiesburg and we got to talking about what it means to serve the Lord in this day and time. They mentioned to me the fact that this is not only a time of great opportunity, but also a time of great pressure. They asked me to give my perspective on what was happening in our culture. In a nutshell, I told them that we had a culture that was moving quickly in a secular direction and this is an opportunity for Christians to stand and make a difference. It is no longer enough just to wear the label. They were encouraged by that observation. We talked for a few minutes about the way people are responding in this day and age and then I shared with them a verse I had in my quiet time this morning. I was looking at Isaiah 40:31 but I noticed in verse 28 where it says “God does not grow tired.” It is hard for us to understand that, but that is tremendous news for us. He may be disappointed in our sin, he may be heartbroken by our rebellion, but he never gets tired and he never grows weary. I know that He is disappointed in us many times, but isn’t it great to know that He never gets tired of us. We sat there and talked about that verse for a few minutes and then I left. I have to tell you, that was the highlight of my day. I am sure that your day is filled with all types of challenges, but just remember that you serve a God that does not get tired.
