Two Great Stories

We are having a great VBS.  It is so exciting to see these kids so thrilled to be here.  It is inspiring to see the care that these volunteers are giving to these young people.  These kids are excited because they know that these people care about them.

Let me share with you two incidents that someone shared with me this morning.

A little girl was standing with her mother as this morning’s session was about to begin.  It was obvious that she was excited about the day and being a part of Bible school.  She looked up at her mother and asked, “How much are we paying for this?”  Her mother told her that it did not cost anything and the little girl said, “We have to be paying something, this is too much fun to be free.”  What a great comment.  That type of attitude makes my day.

The truth is that it really isn’t free.  People gave their tithes and offerings so we could provide this chance to share Jesus with hundreds of kids.  These volunteers have given their time and talents to these kids.  Hundreds of hours of preparation have gone into this effort.  It’s really a very expensive undertaking but it is time and money well spent.  I am so grateful for all those that have given to make this possible.

The second story involves a 1st grader that walked up to one of our workers today and with a big grin said, “Hey you remember me?”  The worker did not recognize the child.  We have hundreds of kids here.  The worker was trying to remember where and how she had met the little boy.  He came around the table and hugged the worker and she asked where they had met.  The little boy said “yesterday.”  She wasn’t even working with that age group but that great little kid had gotten the idea that he was the only one there that she remembered.

That is exactly how we want them to feel.  I want all of them to know how special they are and how much God loved them through His son Jesus.  There is a lot of good stuff happening here this week.  Please keep praying for our VBS.

Hi Pastor Mike–I told your sister Pam that I would look you up on Google. Pam and I have known each other since Kindergarten and have just gotten back in touch through Facebook. My Dad was pastor of Venetian Hills Baptist Church and then Hills Park Baptist Church. It was great to speak to Pam again and know she is on fire for the Lord. God bless you in your endeavors–I hear your church is going great guns–With prayers and praise to our Lord Jesus Christ–Jane Smith Kennedy
