In three weeks the Southern Baptist Convention will be meeting in Louisville, Ky.  The SBC is made up of over 40,000 churches that cooperate voluntarily in order to more effectively do missions and touch the world with the gospel.

At this convention there will be discussion of a document entitled, “The Great Commission Resurgence.” Many people have had input into this document.  Dr. Danny Akin, President of Southeastern Seminary is the author of the paper.

In a time when the need to share the gospel is so great, we must do more than talk about it.  This statement is a challenge for us to be what we can be in terms of sharing the gospel.  It is about what we are to be about.  There is not anything in this document with which I would disagree.  My prayer is that the Lord will use this in the lives of our people and in our churches.

The Southern Baptist Convention is  composed of autonomous churches.  That means that we are independent in terms of our decision making.  As Southern Baptists we decide to cooperate with other churches for the purpose of putting forth the gospel.
