U. S. Open Qualifier
Yesterday our own Daniel Carver shot a 68 at Carolina Country Club to win the U.S Open qualifier and move to the next level. This is a great accomplishment and we are very proud of Daniel. He beat over 100 guys who came from all over the country to try to qualify. There are only 6 that will have the opportunity to go to the next round. Daniel finished in a tie for first and there was no doubt he was going to be in the top six but He took first place.
I can only imagine the pressure that you feel in this type of competition. You are playing only 18 holes. There is no chance to be better tomorrow. Each shot could be the one that gets you in or puts you out.
Daniel told me that He was very relaxed. Mark Pangle caddied for him and Daniel said that his consistent encouragement made a huge difference.
Daniel mentioned to me that He had been at the leadership dinner last night and heard Jonathan Falwell speak. He remembered Jonathan saying that when he took over the church he prayed something like, “Lord I can’t do this but you can” Daniel wrote that down in his yardage book and he told me he must have read it over 20 times during the day.
He now moves on to the next level which will be somewhere in Georgia. It gets tougher all the time, but I told him he already had a great victory.
Life is much like the game of golf. It helps to be consistent, stay committed, and have encouragement. Every shot counts. That is the way that it is with us. We must seek to make every shot count. You never know what a difference it will make.
