Right Out of the Blue

It has been my experience that you never know what God is going to use. On many occasions, the Lord will encourage you right out of the blue. This happened to me a couple of times last Sunday. As I was standing there greeting people after the service, a lady came up and introduced herself to me.  She shared with me that she had been attending our church for several months.  I told her that we were glad to have her. She proceeded to tell me why she came. She was shopping at Ingles last year when we were doing our Food from the Heart project.  She was so impressed with the commitment of the people manning the project at the store, that she encouraged people at her next stop to go to Ingles and participate. Her point was that she was so impressed by this act of service in the name of Jesus.  You never know what God is going to use.

On the same morning, a young man came up to me with his Bible open. As I looked down at his Bible I noticed that he had written in the margins and underlined certain verses. It was obvious that he had spent time in the Word. He asked me the meaning of two words that are not commonly used in our day. I shared with him the meaning and he was grateful for my help. I told him that the gratitude was all mine. It was such en encouragement and an inspiration to see a teenager who is spending time in the Word. Someone else was waiting to speak to me and as I turned to them, I apologized for the fact that they had to wait while I was with the teenager. They said to me “Don’t worry about that.  It thrills us to see God doing something in the life of a young person.”

I have to tell you the truth. I get to see a lot of wonderful things happen in the lives of people. But those two on Sunday came right out of the blue and they were special.
