Daylight Savings Time

Tomorrow night, daylight savings time begins.  This is the one weekend of the year when we lose an hour’s sleep. It means that we turn our clocks forward one hour before we go to bed on Saturday night.

I have always been frustrated by the fact that, as a culture, we have chosen Saturday night to change our clocks. I am sure there are a number of logistical reasons, but it is bothersome that we live in a culture that assumes that is a good time to do it because Sunday is a day that is unimportant.  This is just another illustration of how a secular culture will try to force faith to take a back seat.

While there are many people that will use this as an excuse not to be in their place of worship on Sunday morning around the country, I am always encouraged by the way our people respond. It is an opportunity for us to say clearly what is important in our lives.  We don’t mind losing sleep over a game or a special event. This particular weekend gives us the opportunity to show by our presence on Sunday that being in the house of the Lord is an important part of our lives.  The Bible says that we are not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together.  It makes it clear that you cannot truly love God if you have no desire to be with His people.     On a day when it is a little bit more difficult to get up, it is just another way of communicating the importance of our faith to those around us.  us. I am grateful for the faithfulness of our people and your presence Sunday morning will not only be a blessing to you, but it will be a witness to others as well.  Let’s look at this as just another opportunity.
