A Smooth Transition
One of the most amazing things about the American system of government is the way that our government goes through such an overwhelming transition every 4 or 8 years, depending on who is elected president. We are the most powerful country in the world and the president is certainly the most powerful office in the world and yet because of our system of government, we have a smooth and peaceful transition. We are the only country that I can think of that has such a process.
It is one of the things that we take for granted and I don’t think anyone else in the world understands it because they have not experienced it. These are some difficult times. We are in the middle of a war. We are in the midst of economic trial and yet the smooth transfer of power will take place tomorrow at noon.
Our President is to be commended for his commitment to make sure that the transition would go smoothly in such desperate times. Our President-elect is also to be commended for the way he has been cooperative and sensitive during this time.
All of us are hopeful of what the future holds. Right now we are in the midst of a real high. The attitude is that we can do anything. Our nation was not built on the greatness of human beings. It was built and will thrive based on the Judeo-Christian principles upon which it was founded.
I have some real concerns about some of the positions that our new president has taken concerning moral and social issues. I pray that he will do the right thing. I pray that when we as a people talk about God blessing America, it will be more than sentiment or lip service.
We still have the opportunity under God to touch the world. My prayer is that we will take ourselves off the throne and once again be one nation under God.
