The Will To Win
I had to get up early this morning, but just the same, I watched the National Championship game between Florida and Oklahoma Florida won under the leadership of their tremendous quarterback Tim Tebow. You have probably heard of Tim Tebow. He is the son of missionary parents and a very committed Christian. He is also, by all reports, one of the greatest leaders that college football has ever seen. Any commentator or article that you read is going to mention that Tebow put that team on his back and carried them to victory. They repeatedly say that he had the will to win. He has leadership qualities that you can see even while watching television. Some are saying he may be the greatest college football player to ever play the game. If that is the case, it is more than just his skills; it is his attitude and his character. Last night he had only one goal in mind and that was to lead his team to a victory in the National Championship.
At the same time, he is a young man who is unafraid to share his witness and makes clear his commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ. As I watched the game, I was repeatedly reminded of the effort we are involved in now. Like many players he had two black strips under his eyes last night to reduce the glare of the lights. On the strips he had printed the scripture John 3:16. I noticed he never took them off. I am confident he wanted to use every opportunity to remind all those watching of his commitment to Christ. He is not the greatest talent that has ever played the game, but he sure makes the most of everything he has.
I sure hope that someone would be able to say that about me in terms of my walk with the Lord…that there may not be a great deal of ability, there but there is certainly a commitment to the task and a willingness to do what it takes.
There are situations in our lives where we must take responsibility and carry the load. In these days filled with tremendous challenges, it is time for believers to do whatever it takes to forward the kingdom.
It was a great name, but also a great object lesson whether you like foot ball or not.
