Having the Right Foundation
Yesterday, one of our deacons stopped me and shared this experience with me.
He was down town and he ran into a man that he had known. They started talking, and of course the subject turned to the economy, the election, the condition of our country, etc. This man was expressing great uncertainty about the future. Our deacon just responded to him “It is tough out there, but I am so glad I have a firm foundation and a relationship with Jesus Christ. Everyone is looking at these circumstances, but I am going to put my trust in Him.” They concluded the conversation and went their own way. Sometime later in the day, he ran into the man again. The man said to him, “I have been thinking about what you said about having a firm foundation and it seems to me that you are really serious about that firm foundation in Jesus Christ and I want you to tell me about that.” Our deacon proceeded to share the gospel with that man, share scripture, and sent him on his way with a clear witness.
There are opportunities like that around us every day. They are probably more prevalent now than they have been in a long time. I shared that with those in our “I Tell The Story” class last evening. We are finding that to be true as we make our visits. This is just a reminder that this is not only a time of great pressure, but a time of great opportunity as well. People keep looking for answers and it is time for the people of God to take a stand.
