John and Stephanie
On the last night of our missions conference, we prayed for a young couple that is serving in a very difficult part of the world. God is doing some great things in that area and he is using them in a mighty way. Some of you will remember that they were pregnant with twins and that there was the possibility some serious problems with the pregnancy.
She was not due for several months but they lost the twins about a week ago. We first heard about it through the Bible Fellowship class they were assigned. I saw John last night and had the chance to talk with him. I told him that we would continue to pray for them and for their family. He had a tremendous attitude. They have put their trust in the Lord and He is giving them the strength to walk through this time of loss. In their ministry, they are on the cutting edge all the time but they have learned to be completely dependent on Him. As I listened to him speak, he mentioned that they had stayed in touch with people in that Bible Fellowship class.
There are several things that this incident brings to my mind.
- God is faithful. He is going to bring something good out of this time of loss. We do not understand but we know we can trust Him. We need to keep that more at the forefront of our thinking.
- That Bible Fellowship class made a different. They were able to touch the life of that young couple with their prayers and support during a time of need. There are people all around us that need that same type of care and attention. If you pay attention, you will see them every day. I personally have run into two already today.
- Your prayers make a difference. You might say “We asked God to protect them.” Yes we did, but we also have to put our trust in Him and acknowledge that our thoughts are not His thoughts. He loved those kids and He loves that family. Our task is to be faithful in prayer.
- As I listened to John, I was reminded that we need to keep the big picture before us. The world we live in will seek to make us focus on those things right in front of us but we are a part of a bigger agenda as children of the King.
