What can I do?

All of us are stunned at what is happening in the financial markets. On Monday the market was down over 500 points. That is the largest loss since 9/11. There are a lot of questions about our economy and I find that very few people have any understanding about what is behind this very complicated situation.

The media is in a “feeding frenzy” looking for bad news. We are driving by gas stations where the pumps are off and the handlers of the political candidates are trying to spin it to their advantage. It gives you a feeling of being powerless. What can we do?

We can trust the Lord. He is not shocked by this situation and He is certainly not powerless. All of this should remind us of our dependence on Him and His interest in every part of our life.

We can Pray. It is time for the people of God to get before Him and humble ourselves. While we talk about being “one nation under God”, we are in rebellion against Him. What is happening in our country is a result of our refusal to follow Him. The people of God must humble themselves and pray.

We can Give. We want the Lord’s will in our life but in America less than 1/5 of people in the church give the minimum of a tithe (10%) to the work of the Lord through the local church. We cannot expect God to bless our lives and heal our land when so many of those who belong to Him are stealing from Him! We can compromise, justify, or even negotiate with God but it will not work for us or our nation.

We can share. There is a real uncertainty in our society today. People are looking for some answers and for someone that cares about them. As followers of Christ we have a message to share and we can always do it with a real excitement and confidence.

There a lot of people that are “Running on Empty.” You may not know the answer to their particular issue but you can invite them to hear about the difference that Jesus can make in their life. Don’t waste these opportunities. There is something that we can do.
