A Great Week at the Beach

Last week we took a large group of Junior High kids to the beach. It was one of the best trips that we have ever had. Even with the large crowd, we had no discipline problems. The kids were very cooperative whether it was their quiet time on the beach, being a part of the Bible study in the mornings, or being a part of the services in the evening.

I talked to them about the importance of a proper self-image. These kids have to learn now to see themselves through God’s eyes rather than the eyes of the world. We talked about how to deal with authority. They need to understand that they will always be responsible to someone. We also talked about asking for forgiveness and we talked about taking positive action in our lives.

At the beginning of the week I asked to consider these questions:

  • What is your greatest challenge?
  • What is your greatest temptation?
  • What is your toughest relationship?
  • What is most important to you?

I tried to tell them that life turns on a moment and that this could be that moment. These kids were in some deep water and many of them made some significant commitments.

It is so important that these kids get in touch with God wants to do with them now. I find that most of the problems that adults deal with have to do with the same issues of self-image, who is in control of their life and the battle against selfishness, anger and bitterness.

Everyday I sent an outline of my message home to the parents. Not only do we need to teach these kids but we need to be applying these principles in our lives as well. I know that is true for me and I’ll bet it is true for you as well.
