The Barna Group just released a study on sacred literature in America. In a recent study about 2 dozen books were mentioned by those who were questioned in the study. Out of the two dozen only four were listed as holy by more than one percent of the population.

The Bible was named a holy book by 84% of the people. That is the same percentage that claims to be Christian. While a large majority listed the Bible as a holy book, the opinions varied on the way they viewed the Bible.

As I read the study I got the impression that while we say it is a holy book, we do not treat it that way and in fact don’t know much about it. We live in a society that is losing the respect for the Word of God and are becoming more biblically illiterate everyday. This is very serious because the major problems that we face as a country can be traced to ignoring the principles of scripture.

There is every reason to have a greater confidence in the Word of God than ever before. This is where learning and following the truth of scripture comes into play. That is exactly what happened in the early church and it changed the world. We are going to talk about that on Sunday. You can trust His Word and you must be incorporating that truth and sharing the truth.

People around you are looking for answers and they have bought the lies of this world. It is up to us to share the truth with them. You cannot do that unless you have a personal confidence in His Word. This Sunday you will see how important that is to you and to those around you.
