For several years now, I have given our deacons a book to read that I thought to be challenging and helpful. This morning I spent some time signing some of those books. As I write a note in each one of them, I take a moment to pray for that deacon and his family.

We are blessed with a great group of men who serve on our deacon body. Our church will not go any farther than these men who serve as some of the spiritual leaders in our fellowship.

This group is made up of those that are brand new as well as those that have served several terms over the years. No matter what their status, age, or experience, they must be willing to go to another level in their personal spiritual life and at the same time challenge our church to do likewise.

As I go through this process, I am reminded of the responsibility that each of us has to step up and do all that we can do for the kingdom.

The question for you and for me as believers is, “Am I doing all that God would have me to do to advance the kingdom?” We live in a world we do not have the option of sitting back and taking a break.
