Huckabee Ends His Campaign
Tonight Mike Huckabee ended his campaign for the republican nomination for president. Regardless of how you feel about his political views, you have to admire the way he conducted himself as a Christian.
Political correctness would have told him to hide the fact that he had served as a Baptist pastor. It would have advised him to compromise his Christian principles in the name of contemporary tolerance. It would have advised him to shy away from quoting scripture or referring to his beliefs.
He was willing to accept the differences that he had with others, but unlike so many others he did not run away from what he believes.
It is very fashionable for politicians to appear religious and to call the name of God. This is a reflection of the American statistics that show our culture to be very religious.
Mike Huckabee was not ashamed to say He is an evangelical Christian and he was not ashamed to call the name of Jesus, the name above every name. This was very refreshing and served as a witness for the Lord. You don’t normally see this in a presidential race and it is somewhat rare in other offices as well.
All of this is a reminder of our responsibility to pray for our country. We need to pray that politicians who are willing to share their commitment to Christ will not be the exception rather than the rule.
