Aiming for a 3-peat

This week the SCA boys’ basketball team is in the final four for the state championship.  We believe that we have a great chance to win our third straight state championship, a “3-peat”.

This is a fun team to watch and it is much more than just basketball skill.  I saw an illustration of that on Tuesday night.

Dee Chambers was about to break the 1000 point barrier.  Everyone in the stands knew exactly how many points it was going to take.  It was obvious that it was also on the mind of the team.  At one point in the first half Dee had a steal and had only one short player between him and the basket.  It was an easy “two” and everyone expected him to take the shot, especially since he was going for the significant goal in his career.

Instead of taking the shot, at the last second Dee passed the ball unselfishly to another player for the easy basket.  I told Dee that the greatest play of the game was not when he got the thousandth point, but when he so unselfishly gave the ball to another player.

It happened to be Dee, but it could have been any of our guys.  They are very unselfish and will constantly put the team first.  These kids have character and it shows.  When you watch them play you realize it is more than a win or great execution.  It is a team that constantly gives 100% and they do it with character and class.

I am proud of our team and their coaches and I am looking forward to this weekend.
