We are only two days into the new year and we already have major distractions in terms of our personal life.  People seem to be talking about one of two things.

On the one hand they are talking about the Bowl Championship Series or one of the 28 bowl games.  Can you believe it?  We now have 28 post season football games.  It has become a complete obsession.  In a short period of time the only ones that any of us remember will be those that involve a team that we follow.  Each one of them are being analyzed to death on ESPN and yet in a short period of time they will be largely forgotten.  It is a great source of enjoyment but we have to remember it is only a game.

The other thing that dominates our attention is what is taking place in Iowa with the caucuses that are taking place tomorrow night and the primaries soon to follow.  With the news networks and the internet, the political race moves a lot quicker.  In the past we talked about a news cycle in terms of days. Now that cycle can change almost every hour.

The networks will continue to remind us who won, but in a few weeks everything else will be forgotten.  Certainly it is important, but we should not let it distract us from making the commitments and plans that God would have us make for our own lives.  The has called us to make a difference as individuals and we must stay focused what He would have us to do.
