They Refused to Quit

Tonight, I went to Columbia to see our Spartanburg Christian Academy girl’s volleyball team play for the state championship against Holly Hill Academy. We have won the championship for the last two years and we were going for three.

We are a very young team and no one really expected us to be a factor in this year’s championship. But here we are, playing for the state championship against the number one seed in the tournament. The match came down to a fifth game and we lost by a couple of points. I was proud of the way our girls played and they gave it their all right to the very end.

Obviously they were disappointed because they had set a high standard for their performance. Our coach, Monica Fain, has done a great job with these girls. They will be back and they will be a major force in the future.

I was proud of them and challenged at the same time. It is so easy to make excuses for the things that we do not do. These girls are learning to put forth a great effort and do their best every time they take the court. There is a lot that they can teach us.

This is a part of the Christian world view that we are trying to build in their lives. We came home with the second place trophy, but the character that they showed in this competition of much greater value.

As usual we had a great crowd. Our parents and students are always so supportive of our teams and it is a great thing to be a experience.
