Some Great Servants
Yesterday, I went with about 55 others over to Clemson to work the concession stands that we have had for several years. This has been a ministry to help students earn money that goes toward paying for mission trips and retreats. We have one large concession booth where we sell everything and then a number of locations where we sell ice cream. It is an amazing thing to watch.
We have a group of volunteers that go early every week. They do not have kids in our ministry and yet they make it possible for funds to be raised for the benefit of these young people. It is very hard work. They leave about six hours before the game and usually get home 12-15 hours later. They have developed a system of operation that is incredibly efficient. In fact, this week I discovered that Clemson is now using an inventory system for the concessions that our people developed.
The people that go to work the Clemson games work very hard. When the crowds start to come, it is non-stop! Over the years we have seen thousands of dollars raised in order to help young people. Before we got off the bus, Jonathan Bright prayed for the young people that would be touched as a result of this effort. The people that go have a great attitude and operate as a well-oiled machine, but it makes it easier when you realize the results.
Many of these volunteers do this in order to serve. It was a very late night and the kids had to be in school the next day so a lot of folks stepped in to make sure it happened. It is just another example of what a lot of people do around here in order that we might touch the lives of people. I was glad to be a part of it. It was a long day, but a lot of fun.
