Ready for School
At this time of year the question is being asked, “Are you ready for school?” Whether you have a pre-K student or a college student, people are constantly asking you that question. Some kids will tell you that they are ready for school to start, while others are dreading the day. Now they have to go back to work and “learn.” Certainly this is an example of living our lives by the calendar rather than what is profitable.
In a world that is constantly changing, we must continue to learn. That is true not only in terms of technology and culture, but also in our spiritual lives. There is never a time when God expects us to stop learning and growing. We never take a break.
In Romans 12:2 Paul says, “do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” The process of transformation is going on all the time. We must constantly be transformed by learning and growing in the Lord. Otherwise we will be left behind.
The futurist Alvin Toffler said, “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn.” He said that we must also have to have the ability to unlearn some things and relearn others.
God does not change and our beliefs and values do not change. We must always be prepared to take our relationship with Him and what we believe and use it to impact the world in which we live for the glory of God. Pay attention. That can and will happen on a daily basis when you are committed to learning.
