On the Zip Line
Yesterday I had the opportunity to spend theafternoon with our kids on the last day of Children’s Camp. It was so excitingto see these kids having such a wonderful and growing time. We have been usingthis camp in North Georgia for several years. Each year they keep adding another activity. This year they had built a zip line. For those of you who are not familiar with that, it is a line where they put you in a harness and you jump off a high tower and glide down the wire to the end of the ride.
Everyone wanted me to ride the zip line. I am not crazy about heights. But I agreed to give it a try. You climb a tower that is about 30 – 35 feet high and after you are hooked up you just step off the tower. It is a great thrill and it is a lot of fun. The tough part is just stepping off the tower. Even though you know hundreds of people have done it before you, and you know that you can trust the equipment, it is hard taking that step of faith. There is no easy way to do it. Some of the kids said that it was better just to run and jump, and they are absolutely right. There is no use to try to step off that tower easily. You might as well go all the way.
That is what it’s like to walk by faith. You have to take that leap. So many people profess to be followers of Christ, and yet in so many areas of their life, refuse to take that leap of faith. It might be a change of habit, developing a prayer life, sharing your story, or letting go of your possessions. Whatever the case, you have to take that leap of faith. Just like the zip line, once you jump off the tower, it’s a great ride. I am sure there are areas in your life where you need to take that leap of faith. The Lord is waiting for you to trust Him and to walk in obedience. In terms of your life, don’t waste any more time standing on the tower. Whatever, the challenge, go ahead and take that leap of faith. Like all those kids, you will find it to be very rewarding.
