A Loss of Power

Last night we lost power at my house for several hours.  It happened somewhere around 10:30 p.m.  We were a perfect model of being unprepared. We couldn’t find a flashlight; we couldn’t even find any matches to light a candle.  We are stumbling around in the dark trying to think of where a flashlight might be that had batteries that worked.  Everyone knows that you are going to lose power at some time, and while we did have a flashlight somewhere, we had no idea where it was.  I have heard all of the plans and all of the instructions about being prepared in case of an emergency.  In this particular situation, we would be an excellent illustration of a bad example. It took us a little while, but we finally got our act together and after a few hours, the power came back on.  There was no real damage done.

As I have thought about this situation, I was reminded of what happens in our lives.  It is one thing to lose power for a few hours and not be prepared; it is another thing to face crisis and have no personal power to deal with it. I constantly see people who are going through that type of situation. They did not see it coming, but when the time of crisis arrives, they are not prepared because they have neglected to follow the plan of God in their lives. As far as electricity is concerned, we lose power very seldom. But we must also understand that there is that constant potential of losing personal power in a time of crisis. I was reminded of the fact that we need to know where we are, we need to know who we belong to and we need to stay in touch in terms of our walk with the Lord so we are able to respond quickly and promptly when the crisis comes. Do you know what you would do if you faced that time of trial today? It is certainly something to think about.
