The First Time

Laura comes from a small family and this past Saturday we went to North Carolina for a funeral of her uncle, Huck.  He was a fine man and very much loved and respected in his community.  He was very active in his church, and it was a good opportunity for her to see extended family she had not seen in many years.

As we sat there with the family, it struck me that this was the first time that I had ever sat with a family during a funeral service. When someone in my family has passed away,  I have always been involved in the service. It was a very different experience for me. You learn a lot when you see things from another perspective.

Today I am on my way to Charleston. Allison finishes her exams this morning and I will be picking her up to bring home for the summer.  We will cram all the junk into her car and into mine.  Today is also my son, Andrew’s birthday. So it is a very busy day for our family.

Also, my dad is having a heart cath today.  I would appreciate your prayers for him. We believe it is more diagnostic in nature and we pray he will get a good report.

All of this is to say that life is very busy, constantly going in many directions. You never know who is at the point of victory or defeat and so you must be prepared to minister in whatever way possible.
