A Great Day for Life

Yesterday the Supreme Court upheld a federal ban on the terrible procedure known as partial-birth abortion.  It affirmed the Partial-birth Abortion Act and reversed the rulings of two federal appeals courts.  This is a tremendous day for the unborn and for America.  This is the first restriction on a specific abortion procedure since it was legalized in 1973.  This law prohibits an abortion technique that literally tears apart a nearly totally delivered baby.  The vote was 5-4 with the new justices Roberts and Alito joining the majority.

This ruling means that thousands of  babies’ lives will not be taken by means of this inhuman procedure every year.  There is still provision for the protection of the life of the mother.  There are about 1.3 million abortions a year in this country.  We have become a world leader in this category.  We want God to bless our country.  How can we expect Him to do so when we as a nation refuse to stand for life?  This is an incredible step and we pray that it is only the first.

This is a clear indication that elections do matter.  The Partial-birth Abortion Act was passed twice during the Clinton administration.  He vetoed the bill both times.  The appointment of Roberts and Alito, two judges that believe that judges interpret the constitution rather than make law made the difference.  They were appointed by President Bush and they upheld the bill that he signed.

My prayer is that this will be the beginning of a major change in our culture.   It is a great victory, but it is only the beginning.  Make no mistake about it, those who champion a culture of death are already working to find another way to get around the law.

In recent days we have been overwhelmed by bad news.  Today is a day of victory for the millions that have over the years been a voice for the unborn.  Many of you have prayed and participated in the fight.  The Lord has honored your efforts.
