Last night we had a dinner for our deacons and their wives.  To look out over this crowd of men and women is truly an inspiration.  We are so fortunate to have deacons that have a real concept of servant leadership.

In Acts 6 you read about the first deacons and how they were such a positive influence on the church.  The Bible says that after they were appointed the Word of God continued to spread.  One of the reasons is the spiritual leadership.  So it is with our fellowship.  It is a real encouragement to see the dedication that these leaders have to the life of our fellowship.

We had a great meeting!  We got a chance to hear from those that are new on our deacon body.  A third of those elected have never served as a deacon in our church.  I think that is very healthy.  It brings a freshness, passion and a creativity to the table.

I took the time to share with them some of the plans that we have for the future.  Some of those I will be sharing on Sunday night.  I believe that this will be one of the most important services that we have had in a long time.  I hope that you will make it a point to be there.  Last night there was a great deal of excitement in the room and I think that you will feel the same way.

I am so grateful for the support and encouragement that comes from our deacons.  There is no church anywhere that has a more supportive and devoted group of Christian leaders.
