I Can’t Lose
As usual there is a great deal of talk about the Super Bowl. The game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears will certainly be one of the biggest sporting events of the year. One of the stories that will probably be lost in the hype will be the fact that we have two outstanding committed Christian coaches facing off.
Much has been made of the fact that we have two coaches in the Super Bowl for the first time, but the reports that I have read show the two coaches shifting the emphasis to their teams and more importantly to the Lord. It is not uncommon for people in the public light, especially in sports to talk about the Lord but give a very different picture with their conduct. That is not the case with Lovie Smith of the Chicago Bears and Tony Dungy of the Indianapolis Colts. They are the real deal!.
They will tell you very quickly that Jesus Christ is the number one priority in their lives. They are the best of friends and usually talk every week. As fellow coaches and friends, they pray for one another and support one another. While they are competing in one of the greatest sporting events in the world, they will not lose sight of the opportunity to give the glory to the Lord Jesus Christ. For them it is more than a finger pointed in the air in front of the cameras. They flesh it out everyday. I recently read a couple of articles about this area of their lives. If you are interested I have provided the link for the stories. I think you will find them interesting.
The world is excited about the Super Bowl and that is fine, but we as Christians should have an excitement that goes to another level. These coaches have honored the Lord with their lives and God is allowing them to make a difference for Him in this game.
There is a lesson in this for us. If these coaches can keep a clear perspective and their priorities right in the midst of this major event, we should make sure that we are doing the same thing with the opportunities that we have as believers no matter what the situation.
