Playing with the Big Boys

This week Spartanburg Christian Academy is hosting the Denny’s Upstate Invitational Basketball tournament.  We have had schools come in from across the state.  Fort Mill has been ranked no. 1 in the state 4-A division.  They are joined by Dorman and Westside, two other 4-A schools, and Riverside, a 3-A school.  Pinewood Prep is a private school in the Summerville area that has won the state 3-A private school championship 7 years in a row.  It is an impressive field.

We played Pinewood Prep last night.  They are an excellent team and we were beaten but our guys never quit.  They made a tremendous effort and were not intimidated in the least.  We had a major college recruiter in the stands watching a couple of the guys from Pinewood.

I am very proud of our team and the people that are working the tournament.  This is a first class event!  We are getting great comments from fans, players and coaches.

We won the SCISA 1-A championship last year and have moved up to 2-A.  Anyone in that association will tell you that he athletic program of SCA is on the rise.  Under the leadership of our athletic director, Chris Arp, our coaches and players are doing a great job.  Our fans are enthusiastic and our facility is a great place to watch a game.

We are building a great program and our kids are not afraid to face those schools that are larger or have a longer history.  We like playing the best.  Their attitude is “Bring them on”.  That is the way it is supposed to be.  Make no mistake about it.  Our kids are getting better not only in their play but in their character and that is what is most important.  Our coaches are doing a great job.

Tonight they play Riverside at 8 pm.  If you want to see some exciting basketball, we have a spot in the stands for you.
