A Time with Dear Friends

Last Friday and Saturday we were in Charleston.  We were at the game on Saturday when Charleston Southern hosted North Greenville.  Charleston Southern won but both teams are making major strides in their football programs.

On Friday night Laura and I had dinner with two couples that we have known all of our adult lives.  Joe and Chris Burns live in Auburn, Alabama.  Joe was in my ministry in Columbia many years ago and Chris was my secretary in Houston.

The other couple was Tim and Julie Head.  Tim pastors a church in the Mt. Pleasant area.  Tim and I were at Furman together and we roomed together when I served in Columbia before Laura and I married.  They are people that have meant a lot to us over the years.

We have not all been together in over 20 years and yet when we got together, it was like we had been together the previous week.  Sure, we talked about our kids and how the ministries are doing, but it was like we had never been apart.

That is the way it is when you have Christian friends.  When you have that relationship with the Lord it keeps you together over time and distance.  The presence of the Lord gives you a security and comfort in relationships that you cannot get any other way.

People are always talking to me about the friends that they have made here at North Spartanburg.  It is not that they did not have any friends, but when you are rooted in the Lord it makes those relationships so much stronger.  Many of you know what I am talking about and many of you would like to have the same experience.

So often that is what takes place in Bible fellowship.  The “Drive for Five” emphasis is all about giving people that opportunity to grow in the Lord and in relationships.  You could be the one that makes a difference in the life of that one that is searching.  Make sure that you are on the lookout for those special opportunities.
