Yesterday the Federal Government approved the over- the- counter sale to adult women of Plan B, a “morning after” pill that has abortion-causing qualities.  It will be available over the counter to women 18 and over.  Girls 17 and under will have to have a prescription. 

This drug is basically a heavier dose of birth control pills.  It works to restrict ovulation in a woman, but it can act after conception and cause an abortion.  The FDA’s decision means that a prescription will still be required for birth control pills,  but a stronger dose of birth control pills can be purchased over the counter.  This is “government regulation” at its best.  It makes no sense.

Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission said this will result in the spontaneous abortion of large numbers of babies conceived and known only to God.  While it is at the earliest stage of the child’s development, it is still an abortion. 

It is easy to see what this is about when you look at who supports it.  Both the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the National Abortion Federation applauded the decision but still criticized the FDA for not making it available to girls under 16

This is a great victory for the pro-abortion forces.  They will see this as a step toward normalizing abortion.

It is a victory for those who want to see our morals destroyed.  This will certainly result in increased sexual activity outside of wedlock.

It is a victory for sexual predators.  They can get the pill and tell young girls that they can have sex with them and not get pregnant.

It is a defeat for the rights of parents.  It will be more difficult to protect our young people. 

It is a defeat for our young people.  We are sending the wrong message

It is another tragedy for America.  We cannot expect God to bless our land when we continue to move in this direction. 

Even at this tragic moment, Jesus is still Lord!  There is much opportunity out there for a follower of Jesus Christ to make a difference.  It is more important than ever that we stand for the principles that we find in the Word of God.  Let us keep that in mind as we gather together Sunday.
