A Confusing World

Two days ago we celebrated July 4, our nation’s birthday.  We were reminded of our heritage and the blessing of living in a free country.  We watched in awe as the space shuttle was launched.  We had a feeling of pride as we watched this miracle of technology leave the pad.  It was a time for thanksgiving and optimism.  On that day, the vast majority of our people are proud to be Americans.

In the midst of the holiday spirit, we are told that the North Koreans have launched some missiles into the sea of Japan.  One of them was supposed to have the capability of reaching the   We have been hearing about this possibility for weeks and even though it appears to have been a failure, it is still cause for concern. We are seeing a significant reaction from the international community.

Some have speculated that they intentionally launched these missiles on July 4 to make a statement to the   is a very dangerous country led by a vicious and cruel dictator.  His people are starving while He continues to be a threat to the region and beyond.

We live in a dangerous world.  While we are dealing with situations like this one, we are also involved in the war on terror.  The big picture is a clear picture of the sinfulness of man.  These situations are extremely complex and no one seems to have the answers.

As followers of Christ, we must remember that our first priority is to honor Him.  He is the ultimate answer and while we may not be involved in international negotiations, we can lift up the name of Jesus which in the end is the only thing that makes a lasting difference.  In the midst of a global economy involved in global conflict, reported by global networks, we must understand that God wants to use us, our church, and our culture rooted in Biblical values to touch the world.  That makes me excited about the opportunities of the day!
