Mother’s Day
Sunday is Mother’s day. This should be a day to show love and gratitude for those that have done so much for us. The impact of a mother is without measure. It has an affect on us for our entire lives.
The love and respect that we show for our mothers should be more than just having a special day or saying it once a year. It needs to be a way of life.
Our reactions tend to fall into one of two areas. The first is that this is a time of rejoicing and attention for those that have meant so much to us. Your words mean so much to those that you love. Whether you are the parent or the child, you have a great opportunity to speak words of love into the life of another. Don’t miss that chance. In so many cases, it is not about the fact that they are a mother. It is not about what they are, it is about what they have done in our lives.
The second area has to do with the fact that sometimes these holidays are times of pain. We live in a sinful world that is populated by imperfect people. We have a society that is filled with relationships that are in some way marked by dysfunction. You may not be looking forward to Mother’s day for that particular reason. You would like to have a good day, but frankly that would be contrary to what is happening to the relationship.
If you are the child in that situation, remember that you should maintain a level of respect, but at the same time you may be forced to acknowledge that “this is what I have to deal with right now with my loved one”. Put your trust in the Lord and know that He understands and that He will give you the strength and wisdom to deal with it.
If you are the parent and you are worried or hurt by the reaction of your child, continue to love them. That does not mean that you always accept what they do. You can love them, but you don’t have to accept their conduct in certain areas. Do not give up. You should use this day to commit them to the Lord. He is still loving them and reaching out to him.
Remember, We can’t have any type of good relationship without having the Lord in the middle of it. Let’s work on keeping him where He needs to be, right in the center.
I look forward to what God is going to do in our midst on Sunday.
