It’s Not Just Afghanistan

There has been a tremendous amount of interest in the arrest of Abdul Rahman on March 16 for rejecting Islam and embracing Christianity.  This is an offense that could warrant the death penalty in a nation governed by Muslim law.  It now looks as if He will be released and will seek asylum outside .  They are now saying that he is mentally unfit to stand trial.  This nation is under great pressure from our government.  I am grateful for that.  Now it appears that they may release him because he is mentally unfit.  In other words, if He is a Christian, He must be mentally unbalanced.

This is not the only place in the world that has that attitude.  The truth of the matter is that while we condemn such an attitude in a foreign country, we condone it in our own.  Christians in our own country are constantly ridiculed for taking a stand for the Lord Jesus Christ.  Believers are criticized, mocked, and ostracized in our humanistic culture.  This is allowed because they say that we are intolerant.  Tolerance has to do with accepting other people’s race, background, culture and other externals.  That is a good thing.  But in we have changed the meaning of the word.  It now means that no idea or view is any more true than another.  Today, if you are tolerant, you have to accept everything.  That is not what the word means.

So many areas in our culture have no tolerance for Christians.  We find this to be true in the entertainment world, the media, parts of higher education and even in government.

The good news is that God has called us in Christ Jesus to be “salt and light”.  We can and should make a difference.  We will never be in the majority but we should be sharing the message.  That is what the world wants to hear.

As we enter this Easter season we will be reminded of how the world rejected our Lord.  When we experience opposition for His sake, we should view it as a badge of honor.
