A High Priority

The most important thing that you can do everyday is to spend time with the Lord.  I have always called it the DQT (daily quiet time).  This is a period of time that you spend reading God’s word and staying in touch with him through prayer.  It is hard for a lot of people to do.   Not because it is difficult, but because so many other things get in the way.  It doesn’t have to be a long time, but it should be consistent.

Your quiet time should include a reading of scripture.  This should be systematic.  You can read in a One-year Bible.  This has selections from the old and new testament as well as Psalms and Proverbs.  It is effective and easy to do because you are challenged by different parts of the scripture.  I am doing that as a part of my quiet time now.

You can also just read in a particular book of the scripture.  If you are just beginning, I recommend the gospel of John or the book of I John.  Read about 10 verses.  Understand what the text is saying and ask the Lord what He wants to say to you specifically.  So many times I have had the experience of just knowing that God provided a particular verse for that particular day in my life.

You can use a quiet time guide such as the Word of Life Material our young people are using.  It is great stuff!  This Sunday we are offering another resource.  It is called, “The Word for You Today”  It is a daily devotional guide that we have had personalized for our church.  I would encourage you to pick it up and give it a try.

The point is you need to do something.  I will be talking to you some more about some ways you can enhance your quiet time.  In the meantime, go ahead and get started!
